Blair Dougher was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina State University in 2007 and currently resides in Raleigh.
Blair has always had a passion for music. She started singing at the age of five and first appeared on stage at the age of seven. She has been involved in various musical endeavors along the way. Blair grew up singing in school chorus, church choirs, sporting events in the greater Raleigh area and in a Christian contemporary band. Some of Blair’s singing accomplishments include performing on stage with country artist Shania Twain at Raleigh’s Hardee’s Walnut Creek Amphitheatre in 1999, singing in concert with Christian artist Jaci Velasquez (as contest winner) in Greenville, SC in 2002, winning the Raleigh News and Observer’s “Sunday Star” competition as the Triangle’s best religious vocalist in 2007, and performing her sold-out concert “Blair Dougher: Living A Dream” at Fletcher Opera Theatre in Raleigh in 2007.
Around the Triangle area you can find Blair singing at sporting events, weddings, special events, and lead vocalist with two local bands. ShakerTown was formed in 2006 with two long time friends and fellow Christian contemporary band members, Mike Wilkerson and Ron Ross. This band has an acoustic edge which tackles a wide range of music from Bob Dylan to Patsy Cline. More recently, Blair has started a self titled two-man band including Blair on lead vocals and her long time musical mentor and close friend, Jerry McDowell, on acoustic guitar and harmony. This band gives a very unique, laid back crisp sound to long running standard songs with a focus on the classics.
Blair grew up singing mostly country and Christian music. In her search to find her own sound she found a love for the blues and jazz styles as well. You will find Blair’s sound a mixture of genres delivered with a powerful and clear tone. She often focuses on power ballads like those of Martina McBride and Eva Cassidy, but also has a passion for singing songs with a raw, simple style.
Blair’s God given talent has brought her many special and amazing opportunities throughout her life. WIth the support and encouragement of her family and friends, she continues to live out her dream. |
